The Urban Impact Foundation has done amazing work with the youth in its North Side Pittsburgh community through its Education, Athletics, and Performing Arts programs. They put an emphasis on after school and summer programs for students of all ages and mission trips for college-aged students.
In 2022, Urban Impact purchased a 3-story dormitory building and hired DRAW to provide architectural and interior design services for renovations to the building to house future summer camp attendees and mission students from around the world.
The scope of the project renovated approximately 1/3 of the existing first floor. This space will be used as an apartment for dorm parents and long-term residents who will serve as dorm parents. It includes a study, full kitchen, living and dining room spaces, master bed/bathroom and a powder room.
The second floor includes both girls and boys bunk rooms and restrooms for the summer camp attendees, along with a large training room to host a variety of events for Urban Impact such as training, community events, guest speakers, and staff meetings.
The third floor is dedicated to the mission students. There are several apartments on this floor ranging from studio-style to two bedroom apartments. All apartments have a kitchenette in them and their own dedicated bathroom. There is also a large communal kitchen and dining space, shared activity space and shared laundry.
A new entry and elevator lobby was added to the building, which provides accessibility to each floor.
