Mars Elementary School Additions & Alterations

Supporting Diverse Learning

The Mars Area School District has undertaken a comprehensive district feasibility study focused on its elementary schools and grade-level groupings. As part of the first phase of this initiative, the District is converting Mars Area Elementary School into a PK–3 facility. To accommodate the relocation of Kindergarten and 1st-grade students, the team is constructing a substantial addition. The project includes new state-of-the-art classrooms that support diverse learning styles, collaborative spaces, a new cafeteria and kitchen, renovated administrative offices, STEAM classrooms, and a new secure entrance.

The team is implementing major site upgrades to improve safety and circulation. They are creating a new student and parent drop-off entrance separate from the bus loop to enhance safety during arrival and dismissal. The design also establishes separate outdoor play areas for K–1 and 2–3 students, incorporating both hard and soft surfaces as well as exterior classroom spaces.

Throughout the building, DRAW is collaborating with the District to select interior finishes that spark creativity and reinforce Mars Area school spirit. The team is using color and texture strategically to improve wayfinding for early learners and visitors. Currently, the project is under construction.
