Mars Elementary School Additions & Alterations

Supporting Diverse Learning

The Mars Area School District has undertaken a comprehensive district feasibility study focused on its elementary schools and grade-level groupings. The first phase of this effort is to convert the Mars Area Elementary School into a PK-3 facility. A substantial addition is required to accommodate the relocation of the District’s Kindergarten and 1st-grade students. The addition/renovation project includes new state-of-the-art classrooms to support diverse learning styles, collaborative spaces, a new cafeteria and kitchen, renovated administrative offices, STEAM classrooms, and a new secure entrance.

The project includes significant site upgrades to improve safety and circulation. Improvements include creating a new student/parent drop-off entrance separate from the bus drop-off to increase safety during arrival and dismissal. Separate exterior play areas are created to serve K-1 and 2-3 students, with hard and soft surfaces and exterior classrooms.

Throughout the building, DRAW’s team is working with the District on interior finishes that stimulate creativity and emphasize Mars Area school spirit. Interior colors and textures are used to enhance wayfinding for early learners and visitors to the building.
