DRAW Collective is working with the McKeesport Area School District to assess the existing high school conditions and create conceptual options to improve students’ learning environments. DRAW Collective’s Jackie Cowan recently presented the team’s high school assessment findings to the school board on March 5, 2026.
Jackie presented the Phase 1 Conditions Survey findings of the facility’s assessment. After surveying the existing conditions, meeting with stakeholders, and defining strategic goals, the DRAW Collective team identified key issues of the exterior envelope, building systems and equipment, and interiors, including outdated finishes, lack of collaboration spaces, and ADA accessibility.
To maximize the efficiency, traffic flow, accessibility, and safety of the McKeesport Area High School, the DRAW Collective team created several preliminary options that can help resolve the issues found during the first phase. Department heads and school staff members provided feedback to the DRAW Collective team that drives conceptual plans and potential designs. From crammed classroom layouts to underutilized spaces, stakeholder feedback is a critical component of the additional assessment phases.
In Phase 2, DRAW Collective’s architects and teaming engineers will work with the District to define strategic goals and continue to meet with key stakeholders, including the school Principal, administration, department heads, and teachers, to review conceptual options.
