Master Plan Update
Planning the Urban Campus
DRAW Collective partnered with Point Park University to create a Master Space Plan for its unique urban campus in downtown Pittsburgh. Unlike most traditional campuses, Point Park’s buildings are organized vertically, presenting both challenges and opportunities for how space can be used. The goal of the study was straightforward: understand how existing spaces are utilized and develop a practical strategy to ensure space is used efficiently across the University.
To understand current space use, the DRAW Collective team walked through every area on campus to update floor plans and document how each space functions. Meetings with every department provided insight into current needs and future expectations, creating a solid foundation for informed decision-making.
Using this information, DRAW Collective analyzed classroom utilization data across multiple years, enrollment trends, and detailed departmental needs. Underutilized areas were identified, and potential adjustments were evaluated against both current realities and anticipated changes to ensure recommendations were practical and forward-looking.
Through this comprehensive process, DRAW Collective developed a plan that met Point Park’s objectives while clearly documenting existing conditions, engaging departments, and providing realistic recommendations to help the University maximize its space today and preparing for future growth.
