Get to know Garret:
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
In the past year, I have found that I very much enjoy yard work and gardening, and I keep adding to my houseplant collection. I love to cook and try out recipes from various parts of the world. I enjoy traveling, especially to France. I am an avid bowler. I’m in multiple bowling leagues and participate in a few tournaments each year. I also teach architectural design studios and digital fabrication in the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University.
What are your most impactful projects at DRAW?
Norwin School District Hillcrest STEM and Innovation Center: This project provided an opportunity to deviate from standard details with many custom elements. I was part of a team that was able to have a direct impact in bolstering STEAM education and learning through making.
Urban Impact Dormitory Renovations: This project required me to be flexible and responsive to unforeseen conditions. I had to dive more deeply into building and zoning code than most projects require.
Waynesburg University Center for Criminal and Forensic Investigation: This is a project I was able to be a part of from concept through to construction. Some roof details proved to be tricky and fun to work through.
What is your favorite architectural building?
One I’ve never seen in person: Odunpazari Modern Museum in Turkiye. One I have visited: Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.
What is your dream destination?
Morocco – I’d love to be able to meander through the souks and spice markets of Marrakesh.
