Berkeley Medical Center sought to improve their patient experience on the 2nd floor Progressive Care Unit by converting semi-private rooms to all private rooms. The project was constructed in multiple phases and created 20 private rooms.
DRAW established a standard of using custom-printed wall protection of each patient headwall. The natural imagery provides a more pleasant atmosphere for patients, caregivers, and families, and improves the healing environment. Satellite nurse stations are nestled between two patient rooms to allow adequate observation without disturbing the patient. The project has greatly improved their patient and staff satisfaction, and the design standards of this project are intended to be applied to similar projects on the 5th and 6th floors.
The 2nd floor renovation also includes a five-bed dialysis unit in the south wing created by a new four story addition to the hospital.
