New Trinity Intermediate School
STREAM-Powered Learning
The new Trinity Intermediate Elementary School opened in September 2024 to serve the growing Trinity Area School District. The new building, constructed as an addition to the Middle School, is serving grades 4 and 5.
Each of the building’s three levels contains a centralized Innovation Project Classroom to support the STREAM elements of the curriculum. The school’s design integrated classroom-adjacent support spaces for team activities, pullout instruction, and small-group learning. Planning for the project sought to strengthen the relationships between individual classrooms and flexible learning spaces.
The heart of the new building features specialized team-learning areas aligned around a vertical atrium. The Media Center, STREAM Laboratory, and Advanced Learning Classrooms open to a second-story outdoor learning patio. A two-story, Blue Box Auditorium creates a multi-purpose assembly space for arts and music programming and community presentations.
The school was designed to be expanded by an additional grade level, if needed, and connects to the existing middle school building.
The Trinity Intermediate School won the AIA Design Pittsburgh’s 2025 People’s Choice Award.
