The Steel Valley School District hired DRAW to conduct a feasibility study, resulting in the conceptualization of a cutting-edge facility tailored to accommodate all elementary students within the district. This project will
enable the consolidation of two outdated elementary schools and the establishment of a unified campus at the current High School location.
Spanning 130,000 square feet, the new elementary school will feature updated learning spaces, such as a modern library and media center, a spacious gymnasium, a well-organized cafeteria, fully equipped activity centers, and specialized classrooms tailored to cater to students requiring direct assistance from specialists. In addition, the design prioritizes adaptable learning areas conducive to collaboration, while grade-specific activity centers facilitate project-based learning for both small and large student groups.
Central to the design philosophy is the promotion of flexible instruction, encouraging student engagement beyond traditional classroom settings through small group activities and innovative teaching methodologies. Above all, importance is placed on providing students with a secure, nurturing, and inclusive environment advantageous to their academic and personal growth.
