The Freedom Area School District sought a colorful, fun, and inspiring learning environment for its youngest students as it consolidated its elementary level program from two buildings into a single new building on the main educational campus.
The bright, colorful interiors of Freedom Area Elementary School emphasize nature and science by incorporating leafy vines, flowers, and mushrooms into the flooring. Hints of butterflies are everywhere in the building, including in the classroom sidelights. With considerable input from the elementary school principal and teachers, a supportive learning environment was created with an infrastructure that included 21st Century instructional technology and classroom tools.
The new Elementary School’s configuration provides a secure classroom wing, separate from common areas, including a gymnasium and cafeteria that are used by the community after school hours. It is connected to the Middle School building and includes concession and storage facilities to support the adjacent stadium.
