Trinity Area School District recently celebrated the completion of their new Intermediate School building with a community open house, wrapping up over four years of planning and construction that began after the school board approved the project in 2021 to address a rapidly growing student population.
Located on the Trinity Middle School campus, the new facility includes 30 classrooms, each designed to maximize natural light and provide views of the campus. The building features specialized learning support spaces and three project classrooms dedicated to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities.
The media center stands out with its diverse amenities, including broadcast and podcast areas, a STEAM room with 3D printers and the unique Cocoa Press for chocolate engraving, hydroponic towers for growing lettuce, a Chromebook lab, and stationary bikes for reading while exercising. A notable highlight is the second-floor outdoor learning classroom, which accommodates 30 students and overlooks the campus.
The new intermediate school will now integrate fourth graders from the district’s four elementary schools, rather than waiting until sixth grade.
Additional features of the building include a full-sized gymnasium that also serves as a storm shelter, capable of withstanding hurricane-force winds, and a Large Group Instruction space for arts, music, and various events. The interior design includes a wall fountain surrounded by plants, enhancing the natural habitat theme throughout the building.
