Groundbreaking ceremony planned for new state-of-the-art Bethel Park Elementary School

Bethel Park School District has announced an upcoming groundbreaking ceremony for its new elementary school, set to take place on January 9 at 4 p.m. The event will occur at the construction site, which is currently situated at the Neil Armstrong Middle School campus, located at 58 Murray Avenue. The entire community is invited to participate in this significant milestone.

The anticipated new facility, slated to open its doors to students in grades K-5 by the fall of 2026, will span an impressive 280,000 square feet. The district has emphasized that the design will be carefully crafted to cater to the distinctive needs of both primary and intermediate-aged students.

The notable features within the new building encompass three S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) labs, dual cafeterias, gymnasiums, playgrounds, and libraries. Specialized areas such as an early literacy center geared towards emerging readers and a main library equipped with cutting-edge technologies, alongside an outdoor rooftop patio, will be integral parts of the structure.

Moreover, the district has underscored that the new building will incorporate advanced security features, positioning it as one of the most secure educational establishments ever constructed in Bethel Park.

The ambitious $132 million project aligns with Bethel Park’s continuous dedication to modernizing its facilities and fostering 21st-century learning opportunities within a safe and protected educational environment for students and their families.

As part of this comprehensive approach, the district is also revamping Independence Middle School, aiming to create more efficient learning spaces and additional classrooms specifically designed for incoming sixth-grade students. These improvements will be ready for the transitioning sixth-grade students by the fall of 2026. Additionally, recent modernization endeavors extend to the facilities and operations center, including enhancements to the transportation area.

Furthermore, the district is in the final stages of planning for a new facility adjacent to the high school’s artificial turf fields. This new structure will house concessions, restrooms, and storage space, further enriching the facilities available to the school community.
